In the Mouth Of a Whale
2026 - Exhibited at the Vera List Art First Fioor Gallery Space, Providence, RI
Wide angle shot of installation
In the Mouth of a Whale (2026) is my senior honors exhibition project. This installation invites viewers into an interior world shaped by marine forms, sensory recalibration, and quiet intimacy.

I spent my previous summer at the Marine Biological Laboratory working on cephlapod RNA-editing. This work emerged from my fascination by the biological strangeness of the ocean. The installation creates a space that is not meant to be observed from a distance, but entered. There are hanging silkscreen and lithographic prints, mounted on swivels and gently moved by fans. These shift alongside acrylic, metal, and paper sculptures and projected light that mimics the slow drift of the ocean, accompanied by low whale sounds.
At its center, bean bags and a low table offer a place to sit, look up into an “ocean sky,” and share a moment of rest, while a small zine extends the installation into a more intimate, take-away form. Installed within a transitory space between classes, the work asks the body to slow down and linger, exploring how perception is always partial, and how meaning emerges through proximity, curiosity, and embodied experience.
