About me
Taimi Xu (b. Helsinki, Finland) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. She is completing a dual degree in Visual Arts and Biology at Brown University, where their work moves between installation, sculpture, printmaking, black and white photography, and scientific practice. Drawing from training in molecular biology and developmental systems, Taimi explores how sensory perception shapes knowledge and the relationship between bodies and environments. Her practice is informed by biological structures such as marine organisms, and cellular interfaces, as well as by questions of scale, touch, and immersion. Taimi is particularly interested in how scientific processes can be translated into spatial, tactile, and visual experiences, and how art can act as a site of inquiry. Their work has been shown in multiple exhibitions across Brown’s campus and their solo exhibition, In The Mouth of a Whale, debuted in the spring of 2026 at the List Art Center in Providence, RI. In the summer of 2026, Taimi will be a fellow at Haystack Mountain School in Deer Isle, Maine.
